Creating effective color palettes is both an art and a science. This tutorial will show you how to use Hexster's palette tools to create, save, and organize custom color palettes for your design projects.

Understanding Color Harmony

Before diving into creating palettes, it's helpful to understand some basic principles of color harmony:

• Complementary colors are opposite each other on the color wheel and create high contrast
• Analogous colors are next to each other on the wheel and create harmonious, low-contrast combinations
• Triadic colors are evenly spaced around the color wheel and offer vibrant contrast while maintaining harmony

Creating Your First Palette

To create a new palette in Hexster:

1. Navigate to the "Palettes" tab
2. Click the "New Palette" button
3. Give your palette a descriptive name
4. Your current color will be added automatically, or you can select specific colors
5. Click "Create Palette" to save it

Editing Palettes

Once you've created a palette, you can:

• Add new colors by clicking the "+" button
• Remove colors by hovering over a color and clicking the "X"
• Rename the palette by clicking the edit icon
• Delete the entire palette with the trash icon

Using Suggested Palettes

Hexster can also generate palette suggestions based on color theory. When you select a color in the color wheel, check out the "Suggested Palettes" section to see complementary, analogous, and triadic color combinations.

Tips for Effective Palettes

Here are some tips for creating effective color palettes:

• Limit your palette to 3-5 colors for most projects
• Include at least one neutral color
• Consider accessibility and ensure sufficient contrast for text
• Test your palette in different contexts (light/dark backgrounds)
